A variety of sounds

The horn, or the french horn, as it is sometimes called, is the most challenging of the brass instruments. Composers love to use its wide variety of sounds and characteristics to tell their stories. If the horn were an actor it would play many different roles. A longing lover, the noble fighter, or the hero before and after the battle, the horn, with its wide range of sounds and effects, can play lots of characters. The traditional brass, and woodwind quintets, both include the horn and composers love the versatility of this instrument.
